Portable Smoke Filtering Air Conditioner

For my final year capstone project, I led the design of a portable air conditioner with 2.5µm particulate matter filtration system, scalable for varying room sizes, room temperatures and outside temperatures. Thorough research and development was done on HEPA filters, heat exchangers, refrigerants,  compressors and fans in order to optimize our refrigeration cycle. Structural, stability, thermodynamic and heat transfer analysis was conducted to aid the design process, as well as optimize the design. 3D models and engineering drawings were developed for all parts, sub-assemblies and final assembly, utilizing ‘equation feature’ to link all dimensions with python code.

We designed a custom self-evaporating system that uses the condensed water to aid in the cooling process. Thorough calculations were done before settling on a battery pack, ensuring 3 hours of runtime at full charge.
